In reference to our upcoming national holiday (1st of august) I feel the patriotic
need to present a book which value is mostly unrecognized (especially by swiss
citizens and hollywood directors).
Before last summer, when we read this book in our literature club, Schiller's William
Tell was for me simply the yawning plot of one of those amateur open-air theatres
played to amuse the japanese tourists in Berner Oberland.
But hey: Compared to JRR Tolkiens "Lord of the rings" there is action from the first
page on! And really cool characters! And a perfect language on top of it!!!
During my readings I began to wonder why no modern hollywood director has had the
idea of making a movie out of it. There's shure some old silent movies
about this topic but, hey what about a new one?
This story can definitely compete with "Braveheart" or "Robin Hood"!
After reading the book we already made a "casting" for this movie. These are the results:
Roland Emerich would be the perfect director for such a projekt!
And if Arnie Schwarzenegger was 20 years younger we even would have a perfect Tell!
But we think Russel Crowe would fit as well. Furthermore: Sean Connery as Attinghausen,
Jerermy Irons as Gessler and Veronica Ferres as Staufacherin (as there are no Superweiber
in Hollywood we had to pick here a german actress - those hollywood-girls are way
too thin for this role - sorry girls, your ally-mc-beal-diet wont help here!).
If someone has more or better Ideas, feel free to write a comment. And if someone
knows Roland Emerich or any Hollywood producer personally, feel free to forward this
post.
To all others: Read the book!
