I am just watching a documentation about "Buena Vista Social Club" on "arte".
It is mostly about "Compay Segundo", the 96-year-old second-voice-singer of this combo
who died last week.
In the docu he was just visiting his grandma's grave. She died when he was six years
old. One of the few things he remembered was that she loved to smoke cigars, so anytime
he visited her grave, he did not only bring her flowers but also a big cigar, which
he began to smoke on the graveyard and left it burning for her (what a nice grandchild!).
But what impressed me most was, when the journalist asked him whether he was afraid
of the death, he answered no, he would have acheived all his duties which were:
planting a tree, rising a child and writing a book.
This made me think about my own life. The first part (tree planting) I have already
accomplished (is even documented by photo - i was about 6 years old and it was
a ginko biloba-tree *lol*), but I really wonder whether one has to adhere to the chronological
order. I would very much prefer to accomplish the bookwriting first. Or is this to
be done when your are retired? Hm. Considering the fact that our generation will probably
not have the pleasure of a generous retierement pension the bookwriting-idea is to
be prefered anyway.
I wonder what book Compay Segundo wrote. They did not say it in the docu - or maybe
I missed it writing this log. They are speaking cuban with german and french subtitles.
But my spanish ist to bad to write in english and in the meantime listen to cuban
spanish.
Anyway, I always liked Buena Vista Social Club-Music, but never bought the CD (don`t
know why). Think I am gonna check on amazon.com whether they still offer the
CD. It's really a great piece of art!
